"Conch" I am constantly playing your beautiful voice. I am mostly amazed at the velvety, flowing sound that is yours only. In "Now and Then", your voice ripples like the passing of water over smoothe stones. Your passion in "Ordinary Dreams" is powerful and is as intense as you are. All I can do to contain myself is to squeeze my arms together and breathe deeply to keep from crying uncontrollably. (especially here in front of my students) Yes, they are taking their mid-term exam to the sound of your voice. It has been a mood altering experience for them. My room is heaven. I love you, and I am so, so happy to be your Sister. I thank God for you. I thank God for our talents. You touch my soul as I am told that I do for others. Then so do you. Love forever, Booie.

"Ok, to clarify: "anti-nepenthe" in pharmacy means anti-opium. In the old days doctors prescribed opium to relieve pain and sorrow and called the treatment, "nepenthe.” Nowadays, "anti-nepenthe" means something that does NOT dull your senses and spirit. Something anti-nepenthe does NOT put you to sleep like opium. Your music is "anti-nepenthe," the opposite of a nepenthe, because your music is so stimulating!"
Dr. Jim < >
USA - Thu May 11 13:43:24 2000

Again, Connye and Kevin were an ocean blowin' in the Bluewind last night. I posit a theory for their music, the "anti-nepenthe" theory: firstly, Kevin grabs some piano voicing from somewhere out of heaven, he pull's them down to sea level and starts a big wave. Secondly, Connye builds on them and drives the band like it's gonna splash the Nepenthe Lounge atop Big Sur. To each big wave that breaks, Kevin then adds the fine mist. Thirdly, Rock and/or another fine soloist chimes in to turn the tide. That's "anti-nepenthe" music! Just a theory...

Hi Connye! I just happened to be channel surfing at 3:00 am & fumbled for a second and landed on BET and both the name on the screen, and the music & beautiful voice, caught my attention immediately. I was blown away, and then disappointed when they cut away, only to discover it was Jazz Discovery and they were giving you (just) a 3.9!! Fortunately, they played a longer segment under the credits, and you've certainly honed your craft. It was beautiful, and sublime. Truly. Connye, I was lucky enough to be introduced to your wonderful voice as I happened upon BET's Jazz Discoveries program. I was very moved by your rendition of "For All We Know", and before you had been selected by industry pros as the winning vocalist, I had gotten your email address (which was onscreen) and begun writing a very long email going into why your singing levitated off my chair! :0) Anyway, that address is no longer valid, it turns out, so I began am Internet search that brought me here! Now I know that I can get your CD (wonderful) and much more about you. I'm hoping that at some point I'll come across another address, because while I know you are quite busy, you are really a wonderful singer and musician and your spirit shines through... and I wanted to let you in on some of the why and wherefore from my own somewhat unusual perspective. For now, suffice it to say that you have created a smile and a fan, and I'm very happy to see and hear of your success and look forward to be a continuing member of your audience.
